What will be the procedure for inspections by VDOT or third parties hired by VDOT? Will they provide their own access to the work or will they need to be on our platforms and barges?

The walkway to existing pier connection hardware shall be Stainless Steel Type 316. The contractor shall submit the design for review and approval by the Department.

Will we be allowed to put a temporary platform on top of the east fendering structure to gain access to the east walkway structure?

The Contractor shall not moor or attach marine vessels to the existing timber fender or dolphin. The Contractor shall not use the existing fendering structure for temporary work platforms. See Materials of Construction Notes on Sheet 2r3. Please refer to The VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications Section 107.21d – Construction Loading of Structures.

Will we be allowed to moor a work barge to the rest bents and to the outside of the fendering structure (landward side) during the prosecution of the work, if we use the proper cushioning materials to prevent any abrasion or impact to the pilings?
