Subject: Sound Wall Posts Type: Plan
Question Date: 11/10/2022 12:55:40 PM
If the contractor elects to use concrete posts for the sound walls, are they required to be fully embedded in the drilled shafts as with the steel posts? If not, what is the minimum embedment depth required?
Answer   Date: 11/10/2022 4:12:12 PM
If concrete posts are used, they shall be embedded by about 6’ into the drilled shafts. The exact embedment depth will be determined by the post fabricator. Note that if concrete posts are used, the drilled shaft will then need to be reinforced by rebars (minimum 1% reinforcement) per note on Sheet 21(36). This is consistent with VDOT Road and Bridge Specification Section 519.01.

Subject: Sequence of Construction Type: Plan
Question Date: 11/9/2022 9:41:26 AM
Plan Sheet 1H(1) details the planned sequence of construction for the work along I-264 to Construct the Sound Barrier Walls. The work requires us to install barrier, E&S Controls / clearing and grading and then complete ITS & Lighting work at each of the 9 wall locations prior to starting the wall work. Are we restricted to working at one location at a time or can we work in multiple locations provided we get the ITS & Lighting accepted by VDOT before starting wall work?
Answer   Date: 11/9/2022 10:48:15 AM
The plans do not intend to limit the Contractor to work in one location at a time. It's the Contractor's discretion to establish multiple work zone locations at the same time while meeting the MOT Plan and requirements of the VWAPM for sign and temporary traffic control device spacings.
