Will substructure surface repairs (piers/columns/abutments) and superstructure surface repairs (not assoicated with beam ends/seats) be permitted during unrestrictured daytime hours wihtout closing I-81?
Answer   Date: 3/23/2026 12:21:08 PM

Subject: Lane Closure Type: Proposal
Question Date: 3/23/2026 10:05:20 AM
Please confirm that a single lane on I-81 can be continuously closed from Sunday night at 7:00 PM through Friday morning at 7:00 AM, between Labor Day through Memorial Day.
Answer   Date: 3/23/2026 11:00:08 AM
Yes, a single lane on I-81 can be continuously closed from Sunday night at 7:00 PM through Friday morning at 7:00 AM, between Labor Day through Memorial Day.

Subject: Superstructure surface repars / beam end repairs Type: Bid Sheet
Question Date: 3/20/2026 3:52:01 PM
Can VDOT consider adding a separate bid item for beam end repairs to be measured and paid per each (EA), as is typical on VDOT projects, rather than including them under superstructure surface repair (SY)? Beam end repairs require individualized formwork, involve confined access and complex geometry, and are significantly more labor-intensive than typical surface repairs. Due to the small surface area at each location, payment by SY does not appear to adequately account for the effort and cost required.
Answer   Date: 3/20/2026 5:15:14 PM
VDOT will not change the pay items at this time.

Subject: Work Hours Type: Specifications
Question Date: 3/20/2026 2:47:51 PM
Can VDOT explain the allowable work hours? Page 12 conflicts with the Table on Page 183. Will 24-hour lane closures be permitted at all on I-81 on this project as shown on Page 183?
Answer   Date: 3/23/2026 9:05:49 AM
Lane closures on I-81 are as follows: Labor Day through Memorial Day, Contractor may close a single lane five days a week beginning 7:00 PM Sunday through 7:00 AM Friday. Lane closure must be removed by 7:00 AM every morning. Lane closures are not permitted on Friday or Saturday.

Subject: Lane Closure Type: Other
Question Date: 3/18/2026 8:35:29 AM
Would the use of a Stationary Lane Closure of one lane in each direction simultaneously on SR 622 with the proper Traffic Control Devices be permitted?
Answer   Date: 3/20/2026 9:33:48 AM
The Department may authorize closures on Route?622 once the contractor submits and obtains approval of a detailed plan of operations for this area. The plan must clearly identify the specific work to be performed during each closure, the necessary closure durations, and an appropriate MOT plan. A full-time closure for the entire duration of the project will not be allowed.

Subject: N96 Bridge Locations Type: Proposal
Question Date: 2/24/2026 3:14:44 PM
In using the VDOT Bridge Location Map Site, we have locate VA Bridge #2020-2023 (assuming these are old #B666-B667 & B675-B675). We have been unable to account for VA Bridge #2018 #2019 (B664 & B665). Based on only 2 mobilizations shown for this project rather than 3, along with the as-built drawings for bridge over SR 622 which separates the bridge as "Over Rte. 622 & Nick's Creek" with different numbers it would appear that VA #2018 & #2019 are the same as VA #2020 & #2021. Please review and confirm this as correct and if not please provide the accurate location for VA Bridge #2018 # #2019
Answer   Date: 2/27/2026 11:56:43 AM
Bridge numbers 2018 and 2019 are the ramp bridges adjacent to bridges 2020 and 2021.
