Question Date: 5/21/2024 1:39:06 PM
Spec section II.2.A.3) requires the relaxation losses to be less than 2.5% and 3.5% based on the loading. We are finding that for A722 solid bar this limits the solid bar to be supplied by only one manufacturer. A ground anchor in a retaining wall is not applying post tensioning force similar to a post tensioned concrete member. Any losses or relaxation in post tension in a ground anchor only result in incremental deflection at the tieback head, but they don’t result in a loss of capacity of the system. Would VDOT consider dropping this requirement or allowing relaxation losses of 5%?
Answer   Date: 5/23/2024 4:00:16 PM
The Contractor shall abide by the requirements specified within the Special Provision for Anchored Walls.
