During our site visit we saw that the existing girders in span C near pier 3 have bolted splices. The existing drawings do not show the splice locations. We are repairing 12.5' long sections of the existing girders 2, 3 and 4, due to the proximity of the repairs, please furnish drawings showing the exact location of the splices. What are the design capacities of the splices?

Proposed repairs do not extend to the existing splice location on Span C. Shop Drawings have been posted on CABB for review. If the Contractor’s means and methods require analysis of the capacities of the existing girder splice, that shall be the responsibility of the Contractor.

There are 4 girder end repairs at Pier 2 on the Southbound side and 2 girder repairs on the Northbound side. The current traffic control plan on sheet 33(3) and 33(4) call for group 2 channelizing devices to be set up for the repairs. The repairs will require jacking towers and multiple days for the repairs. For the safety of the workers and the traveling public, please revise the traffic plan to use traffic barrier to separate the work area from traffic.

No permanent lane closures will be approved; thus the conceptual jacking configuration presented on Plan Sheet 22.

Conceptual jacking locations are shown on Pier 2. Note, the drawings presented are jacking concepts and suggested only. The final design for all elements necessary to properly jack and support the bridge structure are to be prepared by an Engineer and submitted for approval as indicated in the notes.
