Subject: Utilities Type: Plan
Question Date: 5/6/2021 7:47:54 AM
Are there any underground utilities present in the median at the Route 360 bridges?
Answer   Date: 5/13/2021 10:38:06 AM
The Department does not have any knowledge of utilities located in the median at the Route 360 EBL and WBL bridges over the Appomattox River, but the presence of any utilities shall be verified by the Contractor prior to beginning construction to prevent any damage.

Subject: Scour Countermeasures Type: Specifications
Question Date: 5/6/2021 7:45:46 AM
The installation section of the specification outlines grading and bedding requirements that will be required prior to placement of the Countermeasures. In our experience and after conversations with the countermeasure supplier these grading and bedding requirements will not be possible in a live stream, nor are they required by the manufacture. The manufacturer only requires any large voids or irregularities to be roughly graded to match the existing contours. Will the Department give consideration to preparing a separate specification for use when placing these units in the water.
Answer   Date: 5/13/2021 10:37:44 AM
The existing special provision included in the contract applies when placing scour countermeasure units above and below ordinary high water. Divers may be utilized for individual unit placement, and as stated in the plans, pressure jetting may be used for excavation to prepare the subgrade.

Subject: Cofferdams Type: Permits
Question Date: 4/21/2021 1:52:56 PM
The permit for the RTE 636 bridge over Flat Creek requires a cofferdam and a means of access to the pier. There are no pay items for cofferdams. Please clarify measurement and payment for this work.
Answer   Date: 5/5/2021 9:57:10 AM
The incorrect permit language was inadvertently included for Rte 636 over Flat Creek. The permit language will be revised to require the use of a turbidity curtain. A cofferdam will not be a requirement for Rte 636 over Flat Creek.
