Subject: Existing Shoulder Conditions Type: Plan
Question Date: 9/7/2017 1:48:03 PM
In reviewing the on site conditions, the WBL shoulder from approx. sta. 55+00 to 84+00 contains areas with such an extreme cross slope down to the guardrail that fill may be needed under the proposed 6' asphalt widening at the outside edge in lieu of trenching shown in the typical sections. Will the widening be narrowed up in these areas or will the contractor be required to fill these areas using the Lump Sum Grading and Aggregate 25 or 26 bid items? After widening will the remaining shoulder be filled in with the Aggregate 25 or 26 bid item for replacement of the guardrail to the proper height?
Answer   Date: 9/11/2017 10:03:19 AM
In the event the Contractor discovers the required bottom elevation from the milling operation is actually above the existing gravel shoulder grade, the Contractor may increase the depth of the BM-25.0A (T) asphalt up to a maximum depth of 8”. In the event the additional depth needed is in excess of 5”, the Contractor is to use the Aggregate #25 / #26 bid item to fill to the BM-25.0A (T) asphalt bottom elevation. Additional Aggregate #25 / #26 is to be placed outside the asphalt to complete the shoulder for guardrail installation.

Question Date: 8/10/2017 9:06:11 AM
Part of this project overlaps a maintenance schedule currently under contract for route 24. How does the department anticipate coordination between the two projects?
Answer   Date: 8/29/2017 10:20:52 AM
Please price your bid to cut into the new area. If it becomes apparent that it is unnecessary during construction it can be adjusted in the field.
