Guardrail
Type:
Plan
Question
Date:
7/25/2017 9:41:42 AM
Bid Item 520-GUARDRAIL THRIE BEAM SUPER STRUCTURE quantity of 710 LF does not correspond with plan quantities (structure B650 = 580 LF, B648 = 130 LF). Drawings for both structures only indicate (B650 = 540 LF, B648 = 90 LF for a total of 630 LF) vs. 710 LF shown for Bid Item 520.
Answer
Date:
7/25/2017 1:47:15 PM
The guardrail quantities specified on sheet 2 of bridge plans (structure B650 = 580 LF, B648 = 130 LF) are correct and consistent with the bid item (total 710 LF). Please note that as shown on sheets 16 of 27 and 13 of 18, “GUARDRAIL THRIE BEAM SUPER STRUCTURE” pay item includes the guardrail transition lengths (10 LF assumed at each side) therefore the guardrail quantities are longer than the proposed bridge length.

Type:
Permits
Question
Date:
7/24/2017 11:05:19 AM
Permit conditions state that all in stream work shall take place in-the-dry utilizing non erodible cofferdams. Cofferdams are shown on plan sheet 5 for Bridge B650 and on plan sheet 3 for Bridge B648. Roadway sections also show work in stream (both excavation and riprap fill). Are cofferdams required for the roadway work?
Answer
Date:
7/25/2017 9:26:39 AM
Any cofferdam required for the roadway construction behind the abutments shall be incidental to bridge cofferdam pay items. The cofferdams shown in the plans are schematic and the Contractor may slightly adjust the limits of cofferdams as necessary.

Question
Date:
7/21/2017 2:28:27 PM
On sheet 13 of 27 for Bridge B650, Section F-F shows a detail for hot poured joint sealant and says to refer to notes.. Notes and details on Sheet 14 show waterproofing details with no mention of hot poured joint sealant Is there any hot poured joint sealant required
Answer
Date:
7/24/2017 8:13:29 AM
The hot poured joint sealant note in Section F-F on Sheet 13 is carried over from VDOT Standard Sheet PSS-2. Since we added the new joint detail and waterproofing on Sheet 14, hot poured joint sealant is no longer applicable to this detail and it is not required.
