Subject: New Pavement Marking Application Type: Specifications

We notice on order No.471 plant mix schedule two pave marking line items No.54100 TY.A 1X & TY.B X2 both requiring a new type of pave markings application according to the spec. did VDOT inform the pave marking contractors prior to putting this into the contract in the past VDOT has always informed the industry to any new specification changes or material changes or application changes regarding asphalt, guardrail or tack. Co-op meetings are held throughout the year to relay information can we possibly get the minutes so we can familiarize our staff with the new pavement marking. Thanks Greg Miller

The two new durable pavement marking pilots ("Type X1" and "Type X2") were discussed in detail at the Dec. 2019, April 2020, Sept. 2020, and Dec. 2020 Traffic Engineering Co-op meetings between VDOT and VA Asphalt Association. The presentations from those meetings can be made available upon request - please send those requests to Marc Lipschultz (Marc.Lipschultz@vdot.virginia.gov). Please note that these presentations are not official contract documents.

Type B X2 Specification question. 3M reflective elements require the use of type 3 beads. Your specifications for X2 require the use of type 1 beads but allow 3M elements. Can we bid 3M elements with type 3 beads for the X2 wet reflective material?
