Subject: MS-1A Type: Plan
Question Date: 3/18/2019 12:37:25 PM
The MS-1A has brick pavers in the area that would normally have the 4" concrete flatwork. Should the price of the MS-1A exclude the 4" concrete slab or will those areas be measured a two lines of CG--2 curb?
Answer   Date: 3/19/2019 10:22:02 AM
Per the details on Sheet 33(2D), the brick paver medians will be paid for separately under CG-2 Curb and Concrete Paver Units.

Subject: MS-2 medians Type: Plan
Question Date: 3/18/2019 12:29:19 PM
MS-2 median is shown on the plan incidental items quantity sheet as measured by the square yard, with a quantity of 10,537sy. A check of the quantity confirms measurement by the square yard. The bid item #1310 is measured by the linear foot, which is the correct unit of measure, however the quantity provided is the square yard quantity of 10,517. This quantity appears to be incorrect, Can you verify this and make the correction or detail how this item should be priced?
Answer   Date: 3/19/2019 12:33:58 PM
MS-2 median is measured in LF. The MS-2 median quantity should be 12,900 LF.

Question Date: 3/19/2019 1:05:18 PM
Based on the answer above, will the MS-2 be paid by total LF of curb for the MS-2 or the LF of centerline of MS-2 median?
Answer   Date: 3/19/2019 2:22:54 PM
The MS-2 will be paid based on LF along the centerline.

Subject: Paving Grid Type: Plan
Question Date: 3/16/2019 1:28:26 PM

Answer   Date: 3/18/2019 3:50:22 PM
Construction activities that trigger the need for monitoring of existing adjacent structures and facilities include but are not limited to: a) Deep Foundation Installation.b) Cofferdam and Support of Excavation (SOE) installation, excavation, and removal. c) Demolition. d) Installation of additional new fill in the median, and approach embankments (new and widened bridges), and retaining walls. e) Compaction. f) Excavation. g) Trenchless Construction.

Subject: Retaining Wall Type: Plan
Question Date: 3/15/2019 4:01:39 PM
Reference the Retaining Wall shown on Sheets 25(7) and 25(8) and paid for under Biditem 4610. The bid quantity stated appears to be substantially more than the drawings indicate. Please confirm the bid quantity.
Answer   Date: 3/18/2019 8:26:04 AM
The pay item 64901 is for the “Retaining Wall” shown on plan sheets 25(7) and 25(8), with vertical payment limits shown on 25(3). The quantity of 3145 SF is confirmed.

Subject: Pipe Retaining Beam Piling Type: Plan
Question Date: 3/15/2019 3:48:07 PM

Special provision for Lightweight Aggregate Backfill; Payment will be made under TON. Will the measure of payment be based on certified delivery weigh tickets, in the same manner as other aggregates would be measured?
Answer   Date: 3/19/2019 12:34:41 PM
The lightweight aggregate fill will be measured in accordance with Section 109.01(b) of the Specifications.

Subject: Concrete Sheet Pile wall and temporary sheeting Type: Other
Question Date: 3/15/2019 3:03:43 PM
Borings 14BH-20, 14BH-21, 14BH-22, 14-BH23 only go to a depth of 25'. This is not nearly deep enough to determine the length of temporary sheet pile required for this area. Additional geotechnical information is required from VDOT in order for the contractor to make reasonable assumptions for design of the sheet pile wall. Based on current information a temporary sheet pile wall will not suffice for construction of the permanent sheet pile wall, or to hold up the existing roadway. Please provide additional boring information.
Answer   Date: 3/15/2019 4:10:51 PM
See borings 14BH-01, 14BH-03, 14BH-04, 14BH-06 and 14BH-07 for more information.

Question Date: 3/15/2019 4:27:07 PM
I already checked those and they are not deep enough either, and follow the alignment of the permanent sheet pile wall rather than the temporary sheet pile wall. Furthermore those indicate very poor soil conditions as evidenced by weight of hammer in the blow counts. The entire area is essentially slop. Deep Boeing’s are required to formulate a temporary sheet pile wall design.
Answer   Date: 3/18/2019 8:27:12 AM
The referenced borings were terminated at elevations ranging between El. -42 and El. -65 feet. Deeper borings were completed for the bridge foundations to the east. The deepest recommended tip elevation for the permanent sheet pile wall is El. -30 feet, which is above the bottom elevation of the test borings. The referenced borings indicate a layer of medium dense to dense sandy soils between approximate elevations El. -25 and -40 feet, with some variation. VDOT and its consultant designer are responsible for design of permanent features. Design of temporary support of excavation is the responsibility of the contractor.

Subject: Bid Item 4500 Structural Excavation Type: Proposal
Question Date: 3/15/2019 2:04:46 PM
The bid item total is 4,360 cy. Bridge Structural Excavation is 1,450 cy and the shafts have 1,450 cy. Please identify where the remaining 1,460 cy is located
Answer   Date: 3/15/2019 3:17:17 PM
Sheet 25(1) includes 1,450 CY of structure excavation for the drilled shafts on Retaining Wall/Sound Barrier Wall F1. Sheet 26(6) includes 1,510 CY of structure excavation for the drilled shafts on Sound Barrier Wall F2. Sheet 2 of the B603 plans includes 1,400 CY of structure excavation for the bridge. The total is 4,360 CY.

Subject: Bid Item 4350 for A4 Concrete Type: Proposal
Question Date: 3/15/2019 2:01:26 PM
please identify the location for the A4 Concrete. There is 1,450 cy in the drilled shafts but the bid item total 2'960 cy
Answer   Date: 3/15/2019 3:17:58 PM
Sheet 25(1) includes 1,450 CY of A4 concrete for the drilled shafts on Retaining Wall/Sound Barrier Wall F1. Sheet 26(6) includes 1,510 CY of A4 concrete for the drilled shafts on Sound Barrier Wall F2. The total is 2,960 CY.

Question Date: 3/18/2019 11:32:00 AM
This change in quantities affects both the Structure Excavation biditem and the A-4 concrete biditem. Will an Addendum be issued to reflect these changes along with a revision to the Expedite file?
Answer   Date: 3/18/2019 3:49:01 PM
No a revision will not be issued.
