Item 120 Asphalt Concrete TY SMS-9.5E has such a small quantity, would it be possible to install SM-9,5D in place of the SM-9.5E? The SM-9.5E is just specified on the bridge deck and it would be very costly to install such a small quantity.

Sheet 1 of 23 bridge plans shows high voltage lines. OSHA has different requirements for working around lines depending on the voltage. What is the voltage on these lines? Sheet piling is shown on the plans for the temporary retaining structure. This is not feasible with the lines in there present position. Will the electrical lines be raised?

The voltage of the line is 138 kV. The planned height of the line with the new, relocated pole is 33 feet at the lowest point of sag. Sheet 1 of 23 of the Bridge Plans only shows the approximate limits of the temporary retaining structure. The types(s) of temporary retaining structure(s) shall be determined by the Contractor and shall be designed and constructed in order to maintain traffic at Abutments A and B during all phases of construction and allow for the phased construction of the abutments as shown in the plans. See “Temporary Retaining Structures Notes” on Sheet 2 of 23 of the Bridge Plans for additional details.

Regarding payment for the Very High Performance Concrete, Sheet 10 of 23 of the Bridge Plans states that "Very High Performance Concrete shall be furnished, placed and paid for in accordance with the current VDOT Special Provision for Bridge Deck Joint Finishing". There is not a pay item in the Schedule of Pay Items for the project for Very High Performance Concrete. How does the Department intend to pay for this item of work?

According to the Bridge Deck Joint Finishing Special Provision, when not a separate item, the cost of materials shall be included in the price of other appropriate items.
