Subject: Prebore Piling Type: Plan
Question Date: 6/11/2018 11:20:52 AM
Specification Section 403.06(c)7 indicates that the diameter of the prebored hole for piling is determined by the material to be drilled through. Could you please indicate if the preboring will be in rock or soil?
Answer   Date: 6/12/2018 2:14:14 PM
The purpose of the preboring is to verify that the pile can be driven without encountering obstructions in the fill. The majority of the predrilling will occur in soil; however, stones, cobbles or boulders may be present. The geotechnical report indicates the holes should be between 12 and 16 inches.

Subject: Prebore piling Type: Plan
Question Date: 6/11/2018 11:15:49 AM
Note on sheet 2 of 49 indicates that the price for pre-boring piling will include cleaning the bottom of the hole. It appears that the piling will be driven after the pre-boring is complete. It is inevitable that material will fall to the bottom of the hole during driving operations, and once the piling are in the prebored hole there is no way to clean the bottom of the hole. Please clarify this note.
