1. Sheet 4, TYP. Section states girder is AASHTO Type III. Section A-A shows bottom width of 1’-5” consistent. W/AASHTO Type II. Please verify. 2. Per notes 14&15 on sheet II, 2 patches are req’d. Can a single 8”x8” layer of bi-directional fabric be used instead? Pleae verify.
Answer   Date: 10/24/2017 3:20:34 PM
1.) The AASHTO Type III designation pertains only to the two outside girder numbers 1 and 2 as shown by the leader. Girder numbers 3 thru 9 are Precast I-girders (typical) as noted in the Typical Half Section. Section A-A shows dimensions of the Precast I-girders only. ~~~ 2.) A single layer of bi-directional fabric may be used if it can be shown by test data to provide the equivalent strength in both directions as the two single layers specified.

Subject: hydrographic survey data Type: Plan
Question Date: 10/20/2017 10:28:39 AM
Where can we locate the hydro-graphic survey data?
Answer   Date: 10/20/2017 4:13:20 PM
Water depth soundings adjacent to the structures may be obtained from the Underwater Inspection Reports for Structures 2866 and 2900. These reports are located in Falcon.

Subject: Access Span 123 Type: Permits
Question Date: 10/19/2017 2:28:31 PM
What permits are required to access the area under span 123/east abutment of the bridge? Will a manlift be permitted in this area?
Answer   Date: 10/20/2017 4:12:51 PM
This area may be accessed from the land side R/W. A scaffold or manlift will be permitted. No additional permits are anticipated.

Subject: Abrasive Blasting Type: Permits
Question Date: 10/19/2017 1:14:37 PM
Will abrasive blasting be permitted? If so what will the waste water treatment requirements be prior to discharge into the bay?
Answer   Date: 10/23/2017 3:35:30 PM
Although abrasive blast cleaning will be allowed, low volume power washing would be the preferred method to clean select surfaces of the concrete beams. For either method, the particles or water produced by cleaning shall be contained, captured and disposed of on shore at an approved treatment and disposal facility.

Question Date: 10/19/2017 1:09:44 PM
What is the mean clearance of the bridge above the water?
Answer   Date: 10/20/2017 4:11:38 PM
The mean clearances between the structures and the water may be determined using the As-Built Plans and the sounding information included in the Underwater Inspection Reports. These plans and reports are located in Falcon.

Answer   Date: 10/20/2017 3:24:03 PM
For details of existing diaphragms and deck slabs, refer to the As-Built Plans which can be located in Falcon. See the Special Provision for Mock-Up Testing for additional instructions.

Subject: Post Tension Pre-Production Approvals Type: Specifications
Question Date: 10/19/2017 10:51:03 AM
Section II – “Submittals and Hold Points” of the Supplemental Post-Tensioned Structure and Bridge Construction Quality Assurance Special Provision details different Pre-Production Approvals in part 4. Item C of part 4 describes the Mock-Up Approval. The Department must be notified 60 CD prior to performing the Mock-Up tests. Various components of the Mock-Up must be submitted and approved (Grout, Tendon Installation and Stressing Plan, Duct Filling Plan, etc.) as well as a Mock-Up Plan prior to constructing or testing the Mock-Up. The spec states that once the Mock-Up test is approved no post tension work shall be performed until a hold period of 60 days is complete. With all of the various submittals requiring approval prior to performing the Mock-Up test, including the Duct Filling Plan, what is the intent of the 60 day hold period for tendon filling after the approval of the Mock-Up?
Answer   Date: 10/20/2017 2:59:59 PM
A 60 day hold period starts at the conclusion of the duct filling operation associated with the Mock-Up Test. This time is necessary to cure, test and evaluate grout and flexible filler specimens used during the test and for forensic analysis and problem solving if understrength grout is discovered. After evaluation and acceptance of the filler materials, final approval of the Mock-Up Test will be granted and authorization given to begin production tendon filling.

Subject: Time of Year Restriction Type: Proposal
Question Date: 10/18/2017 4:27:58 PM
Special Provision "Protection of Colonial Nesting Birds" restricts activities during a Time of Year Restriction for activities on the South Island only. Special Provision "Mock-Up Testing" references this Time of Year Restriction for picking up the beams from the South Island also. Neither special provision precludes work on the bridge during the Time of Year Restriction yet it was mentioned during the pre-bid meeting that construction activities within the bridge limits shall only be allowed between March 15th and October 31st. It appears that the contract does not contain this Time of Year stipulation. Please advise.
