There are a number of intersections along the corridor where the signal phasing in the field does not match the signal phasing shown on the plans. Is the intent of this project to modify all signal phasing to match the plans?

The following pay items are missing from the contract for Rte. 250 and Dickens Rd. - Loop Detector Amplifier (Dual Channel Card) & Spread Spectrum Radio. Unless the Department wants the existing amplifiers and radio relocated from the existing cabinet to the proposed cabinet. If this is the case, how will the contractor be compensated for relocating this equipment?

The existing amplifiers and radio are to be relocated from the existing cabinet to the proposed cabinet and will be paid under Remove Existing Controller.

Retroreflective Backplates are required for all new signal heads installed under this contract. Retroreflective Backplates should be installed on all heads on arms where any one head is replaced. Backplates on any arms should not be mismatched.

Request the Department review the lane closure time periods for certain activities (i.e. pouring concrete). Can the Department allow for short duration closures to complete the concrete pours? Opening a concrete plant at night for these small quantities is very expensive.

Line 0670, 0680, 0690, 0700 do not have Measurement and Payment descriptions in the Special Provision for Remove, Relocate, Reuse, Install and Modify Existing Signal Equipment and Ground Mounted Sign Structures (see Pages 131 to 134 of the Bid Proposal).

Removing designated items will be measured by the unit specified in the summary of quantities and the proposal and will be paid for at the contract unit price. Refer to 2016 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Section 510.04, Section 703.03(c), Section 703.04.

There is already an existing video detection camera for Phase 3. It is attached to the mast arm for Pole A. Is the Department going to require a new camera to be installed on the mast arm for Pole D? If so, should the camera on Pole A be removed and how will that be compensated?

Phase 3 Camera shall remain on Pole A. Video Detection Camera quantity was reduced for Intersection No. 6 on Summary of Quantity Plan Sheet TS(2)1.

Please provide a separate pay item for the connection of the existing conduits adjacent to Pole D. According to the plans, there are a number of cables that would have to be removed/rerouted to complete the conduit connection. Please provide specifications/details on the acceptable methods for connecting the existing conduits.

Plans have been adjusted to remove existing JB at ~ Sta. 16+50 left and the proposed JB at ~ Sta. 17+75 has been deleted. A proposed 2” conduit from Pole D to the existing JB at ~ Sta. 17+25 has been added.

Sheet TS(5) - The plan calls for 2" Bored Conduit (Conduit Label K). The summary sheet (TS(2)1) calls for 3" Bored Conduit. Please confirm the size of the conduit required.

Sheet TS(4) - Please review the number of conduits (existing and proposed) that will be in the existing junction box next to the signal cabinet. Based on the existing size and number of conduits. Not sure there will be enough room for 3-3" and 3-2" conduits to be added to this box.

There are a number of plan sheets that require the removal of existing cables. How will the contractor be compensated for removing these cables?

The connection of the existing conduits will be incidental to Line 0690. Removal will be paid under Remove Existing Conductor Cable as well as Relocate and Reuse Existing Conductor Cable. Summary notes have been added to the Summary of Quantities.
