In the grading summary it appears that formula D was used to calculate the regular excavation. Should formula E have been used instead which would make regular excavation 8,885 CY.

Many storm locations require the installation of new storm lines and the removal of existing in the same operation/excavation. Is it expected that each line will be installed all the way across existing 220 in one night?

Pipe 4-1 and 10-1 are being jacked under exiting 220. Would VDOT consider changing all crossing to jack and bore from open cut? Constructability issues exist with shoring needs, pavement patching, temporary drainage, and duration/nights need per crossing.

Yes, there will be wide load restriction signs required beyond the limits of plan sheets 1J(3B) – 1J(11D). Locations are described in note 16 of the TTC General Notes on sheet 1J(1). The pay item is SF of Construction Signs.

Please confirm the temporary shoring is only required at Structure 5-1 and 8-1 (box culverts). Please also confirm the bid unit. I believe the more appropriate unit is either SF or LS.

Temporary Shoring is only anticipated at Structure 5-1 and 8-1. The bid unit is confirmed at SY. The quantity unit is consistent with the schedule of items, summary, and note on sheet 1J(2). SY as the calculated anticipated quantity was confirmed by the designer.

Installation of pipes shall follow specification 302.04 Measurement and Payment, Pipe which includes sheeting and shoring as part of the pipe pay item.
