Please provide some clarification regarding the chain tensioning assemblies shown on 11 of 14. What is the purpose of the tensioners? Is there a known domestic source for this device or is it expected to be custom fabricated?

The chain tensioners are included to provide for fine adjustment of the beam location and levelness. These tensioners are used in the marine industry and a galvanized version is currently installed on the ferry bumpers at this site. These chain tensioners are available domestically or they may be fabricated of components meeting the working load requirements.

Recently, a project was bid to replace wood pile dolphins with monopiles at the jobsite. According to the schedule in the specifications, these two projects will occur simultaneously. Both contractors will need to occupy the same area in the slips with their floating equipment. Potentially, one contractor could impact the other contractors schedule. How will this be coordinared?

The wining Contractors shall follow Section 105.09 of the Specification; in addition, the Ferry Operation Staff and Construction Division will assist in this coordination and are aware of the two projects occurring simultaneously.

According to the plans, steel fabrications shall be fabricated in a ASIC Certified shop. Will the shop need SBR or CBR certification? Or will BU certification be sufficient?

Per VDOT Specifications 407.04, Structural steel shall be fabricated in a shop certified by AISC, Category SBR or CBR, with endorsements for fracture critical and/or painting as appropriate.
