Question
Date:

The jacking and blocking item in the project manual indicates this operation is to be performed in 48 locations but sheet 4 of the plans shows only 14 locations. Why the difference?
Answer
Date:
3/3/2016 3:56:40 PM
It is anticipated that locations with one or more concrete beam end repairs, that all beams along that centerline of bearing at each substructure unit will be blocked and jacked as one unit. Each structure has six beams per substructure unit with 4 locations of beam end repairs on the substructure units, totals 24 EA. of blocking and jacking. Each structure has seven locations where beam end repairs are required.

Question

The notes on sheet 4 of the plans calls for the shifting of traffic onto adjacent beams when jacking and blocking the bridge and that no traffic may return until the A5 concrete has reached a compressive strength of at least 5000 psi. Does the department intend for the bridge to be jacked and blocked, chipped out, cleaned and squared off, replace any necessary reinforcing steel, form and pour back end, and remove blocks all in the span of a ten hour shift?
Answer
Date:

It is anticipated that locations with one or more concrete beam end repairs, that all beams along that centerline of bearing at each substructure unit will be blocked and jacked as one unit. Individual beam ends will need to be prepared and recast on a nightly basis. Traffic live loads will not be allowed on the each individual repaired beam end until it has attained a minimum 5000 psi compressive strength, which should be completed in accordance with the daily traffic control requirements of the plans and Limitations of Operations. After all concrete beam repairs are completed along that centerline of bearing of each substructure unit, blocking and jacking will be removed.

When our proposal arrived yesterday the project location read from: 2.32 MI to Roanoke Co. line to: 0.79 Int Rt. 220. We then received a second proposal today which reads Nbl And Sbl - I81 Over Tinker Creek And Ns Railway. Does the first proposal need to be trashed or disregarded?
