Sequence of Construction and Maintenance of Traffic Phase 4, sheets IH(8) and IH(9) show temporary road to be demolished. On sheet 2B is the Drainage Description which has two columns one for permanent drainage items titles Sheet 3 and one for temporary drainage items titled Sheet 3 (Temporary). The cost of the 11 temporary items (structures and pipes) includes installing and removing them since they are temporary based on VDOT Specification 105.14 page 50.

Aside from the AT&T Fiber Optic Cable located within the median, all utilities will be relocated prior to Notice to Proceed. Refer to the “Special Provision for Section 105.08 – Cooperation with Regard to Utilities, Facilities Owned by AT&T” for utility coordination during construction.

Will existing ditch and structure #3-3 between the north bound and south bound lanes be put back to original grades/contours upon completion?

Yes, but there should not be any adjustment to the top of structure 3-3 only tie-ins for a permanent pipe at 3-2 to 3-3 and a temporary pipe at 3-9 to 3-3.

On page 287 of the Special Provisions, a tree removal time of year restriction is listed from April 15 to September 15. Is this restriction applicable for this project? There appears to be only one tree where this may apply.

Yes, the tree removal time of year restriction applies to this project. VDOT is in the process of clearing trees prior to this restriction.

On a site visit, we noted that there are two communication utility poles and a ground mounted box near the bridge that appear to be abandoned. The excavation for the new abutments will undermine these poles and box. Will the poles be removed by others or should we include that in the removal price for the existing structure?

The poles will be removed by the utility company. The contractor shall coordinate with the utility owner.

Paragraph III.2.c on page 276 provides for a 6 foot horizontal clearance from the centerline of the track. Paragraph 5 on page 5 of the NSRR Agreements specifies a minimum 13 foot horizontal clearance. The dimension on sheet 1 of the structures drawing specifies a 20 foot horizontal clearance. The 20 foot clearance will result in a span distance of 54 feet for the demolition shield. Is it acceptable to use the 13 foot clearance stated in the agreement?
