Subject: Concrete Removal Type: Plan
Question Date: 8/13/2015 8:52:03 AM
In reviewing the project documents there appears to be no provisions for payment for concrete removal and replacment on this project. After visiting the site the concrete along the steel plates to be removed appears to be badly deteriorated along one edge for the entire width of the structure and we find it likely this material will be further damaged when the existing plate is removed which will require repair. We also find it likely that the plates to be removed are attached in some manner along the deck side of the plate to steel memebers below. If this is the case it will be necessart to remove the concrete around the plates to cut them free. Please provide any insite you may have into these issues and the Departments expectations for concrete removal, replacement and payment for such items.
Answer   Date: 8/13/2015 3:35:21 PM
Costs for removal of existing concrete and subsequent patching that may result from removal of the cover plate will be incidental to other items in the contract. We will issue an addendum to the contract clarifying this.

VDOT has not issued an Addendum to this bid proposal. Should we assume that payment for the concrete removal and repair/replacement is incidental to the SUPERSTR WIDEN/REPAIR STEEL ANGLE (LB) ? ITEM and that VDOT will reflect the change when the contract is executed?
Answer   Date: 8/21/2015 3:26:49 PM
Removal of existing concrete and patching shall be incidental to the cost of REPAIR STEEL ANGLE. The executed contract will contain the amended Estimate Quantities Sheet in the No-Plan Assembly.
