The Temporary Traffic Control Plans and associated Sequencing do consider and include the effects and impacts of the sewer and water line construction. However, it is not the intent of the sequence of construction plan to enumerate every detail which must be considered in the construction of each stage, but only to show the general handling of traffic. Please see General Notes 2, 3 & 4 and note #1 under the Connection and Entrances Notes on Sheet 1N(1) for additional requirements.

As answered by VDOT on 8/11/2015 3:49:56 PM A: Sorry. VDOT has no information on the material or flow rates of the existing service. Without this information it is very difficult to establish a realistic cost for the bypass pumping for this project. An baseline flow peak rate should be established by the Owner or VDOT for estimating purposes, with any adjustment if necessary made with the contactor during the progress of the product or an allowance set by the Owner/VDOT

Per sanitary sewer note S17, the bypass pumping system is required to handle full flow, as determined by the pipe diameter and grade.

If A/C pipe is encountered, the VDOT special provisions for handling/removal/connections to A/C pipe would apply. There are also additional pay items that a work order would have to be generated and agreed upon.

The quantity for Flowable BF is summarized on Plan Sheet 2J, which indicates plan sheet location of the work. We do not seem to be able to locate the actual work necessary on those plan sheets, except on Plan Sheet 1R(4), on which a note indicates that a Temp MH is to be filled with flowable backfill but also identifies other work in the same note which ends with "This Work Will Not be Paid for Separately". Could clarification be added to the plans that actually clarifies where the work is to be performed and what work is measured and paid for and what work will not be measured and paid for please?

Pipes listed as TBA or To be abandoned will be left in place and filled with Flowable BF. For the Temp MH the flowable backfill will be paid for at the contract unit price, however removing the MH F&C will not be measured for separate payment but the asphalt will be paid for at the ton price in the contract for the type called for.
