The Temporary Traffic Control Plans and associated Sequencing do consider and include the effects and impacts of the sewer and water line construction. Subject: Unavailability of Sanitary Flow Rates Type: Plan
Question Date: 8/17/2015 7:52:25 AM
As answered by VDOT on 8/11/2015 3:49:56 PM A: Sorry. VDOT has no information on the material or flow rates of the existing service. Without this information it is very difficult to establish a realistic cost for the bypass pumping for this project. An baseline flow peak rate should be established by the Owner or VDOT for estimating purposes, with any adjustment if necessary made with the contactor during the progress of the product or an allowance set by the Owner/VDOT
Answer   Date: 8/17/2015 9:38:09 AM
Per sanitary sewer note S17, the bypass pumping system is required to handle full flow, as determined by the pipe diameter and grade.

Answer   Date: 8/17/2015 10:18:20 AM
The type of connection to existing sanitary sewer pipe will depend on the pipe material found at the time of excavation. No information on existing sewer pipe material is currently available.

Question Date: 8/19/2015 10:23:09 AM
If the existing pipe material is determined to be asbestos cement pipe, will the Department provide additional direction at the time, under the changes clauses of the contract?
Answer   Date: 8/20/2015 8:04:35 AM
If A/C pipe is encountered, the VDOT special provisions for handling/removal/connections to A/C pipe would apply. There are also additional pay items that a work order would have to be generated and agreed upon.

Subject: Sewer, Water & Drainage Pipe Type: Specifications
Question Date: 8/17/2015 7:18:41 AM
Is stone or select backfill required for any or all sanitary sewer, waterlines and storm piping, exceeding the limits of class 1 backfill and standard bedding?
Answer   Date: 8/18/2015 12:02:42 PM
All water and sanitary sewer bedding and backfill is to be in accordance with VDOT standard UB-1, Type 2 per plans; The intent is to use standard backfill and bedding for the storm sewer pipes; so, no special stone or select backfill is required for any storm piping or per the details as shown on the plans if applicable.

Question Date: 8/19/2015 10:18:56 AM
The question was intended to find out if any special or select or off-site trench backfill "exceeding (above) the limits" identified in your response. Will any type of off-site select or stone backfill be required above the limits of Class 1 or 2 bedding and backfill for storm sewer or culvert pipe or will any type of off-site select or stone backfill be required above the limits of UB-1 Type 2 bedding for sanitary sewer or water lines please?
Answer   Date: 8/20/2015 8:01:25 AM
The plans have included any requirements required to complete the work and the contractor should bid items accordingly.

Subject: Flowable Backfill Type: Plan
Question Date: 8/15/2015 3:37:53 PM
The quantity for Flowable BF is summarized on Plan Sheet 2J, which indicates plan sheet location of the work. We do not seem to be able to locate the actual work necessary on those plan sheets, except on Plan Sheet 1R(4), on which a note indicates that a Temp MH is to be filled with flowable backfill but also identifies other work in the same note which ends with "This Work Will Not be Paid for Separately". Could clarification be added to the plans that actually clarifies where the work is to be performed and what work is measured and paid for and what work will not be measured and paid for please?
Answer   Date: 8/20/2015 7:55:44 AM
Pipes listed as TBA or To be abandoned will be left in place and filled with Flowable BF. For the Temp MH the flowable backfill will be paid for at the contract unit price, however removing the MH F&C will not be measured for separate payment but the asphalt will be paid for at the ton price in the contract for the type called for.
