An Army Corps of Engineers permit is not required for this project, however a VPDES permit is still needed.

1. Please confirm that elevation View B on sheet 26/95 applies to both sides of Abutment B. 2. Please confirm there is no new granite below top 2 courses at elevations A-A and B-B for piers 2,3,4. 3 Please confirm that the stone at piers 2,3,4 is setting on a concrete hunch but at 1 and 5 sets on top of footing. The plan views and section views contradict.

1. Wingwall Architectural Elevation View B on sheet 26/95 is drawn for the Abutment B west wingwall. The architectural treatment details shown are similar and opposite for the Abutment B east wingwall. 2. As shown on sheet 31/95 and in Views A-A and B-B on sheet 40/95, at the west end of Piers 2,3,4, only the top beveled stone masonry is removed and replaced with 2 courses of new stone masonry. 3. As shown on sheets 38/95 and 40/95 the stone masonry at Piers 2,3 and 4 is set on a concrete hunch to match the existing pier detail. As shown on Section C-C on sheets 30/95 and 45/95 the stone masonry at Piers 1 and 5 is set on the top of footing.

SP for Drilled Shafts Section VII.3. Wet Construction Method and 5. Permanent Casing Construction Method are contradictory and require clarification. Paragraph 3 states “The wet construction method may be used in combination with the dry method and temporary or permanent casing methods.” Paragraph 5 appears to preclude the use of wet construction for permanent casing installation. Please confirm that the installation of the permanent 36 inch casing in a 36 inch slurry filled hole is allowed as stated in Paragraph 3.

1. Please confirm that joints at last radial course will be staggered at the pier radial nosing? Sketches can be forwarded if needed for clarification. 2. Can we fabricate tip (pointy) stone with solid nosing? Sketches can be forwarded if needed for clarification. 3. Is pay item for stone masonry net or gross? Stone suppliers charge for the section of stone required to fabricate piece. Furthermore, the price of radial and straight granite facing is quite different. Please advise. 4. Stone at wing walls (abutments) seems to be thicker than 8”. Re-fabrication of stone thickness at new wing wall to accommodate new 11” thickness will be paid under the lump sum or as a separate item. 5. Please confirm that incidental cleaning of stone is to be included in the stone masonry pay item or wing wall lump sum as applicable and is to be limited to high pressure wash, no chemicals or detergents are to be used.

1. Vertical masonry joints at the pier end nosing shall be staggered similar to detail at existing piers. At existing Piers 2, 3 and 4, vertical masonry joints in the new top courses shall be aligned with joints in the existing lower courses. See attached photo.~~~2. The pier end (pointy tip) shall be fabricated from a solid section of masonry to match existing. Vertical joints shall not be located at the pier end (pointy tip). See attached photo. ~~~3. The pay item for stone masonry shall be based on the dimensions shown on the plans (net). ~~~4. The cost of any tooling of the existing masonry for re-use in the new wing walls shall be included in the Salvaged and Reused Masonry lump sum pay item. ~~~5. Per the specification, the cost of cleaning existing stone masonry shall be included in the Masonry Repointing pay item, the cost of cleaning new masonry and salvaged /reused masonry shall be included in their respective pay items. Cleaning methods and chemicals used shall be per the Special Provision for Stone Masonry.

We are being told that 18 inch pipe cannot be jacked and needs to be installed in a casing. What is the minimum size requirement for the casing?
