Railroad Right of Way

Question
Date:

The special provision shows that any work within 25 feet of the tracks with heavy equipment will require a railroad flagmen, but the width or limits of the railroad right of way are not shown. There are several references within the special provisions for the railroad concerning work within the railroad right of way. Is the width of the railroad right of way known (if it is symmetrical) or can a revised roadway plan sheet be posted showing the limits of the railroad right of way?

Assume any work within 25' of centerline of any track will require a railroad flagman. Only the railroad can determine when a flagman is required based on the contractors means and methods of performing the work. The cost for railroad flagman is invoiced to VDOT and paid as a project expense. Limits of railroad right of can be made available upon request before work begins.

Bearing Dimension

Question

There seems to be a dimensional error in the table for the abutment bearings on sheet 13 of the plans. The "Y" dimension for the stainless steel plate seems excessive. If the dimension is correct, it will be the same as the sole plate width as determined by multiplying C+3" times two. Please issue a revised drawing or provide further clarification.

There is an error in dimension “Y” for the stainless steel plate on sheet 13. It should be 15”, instead of 28”. The drawing will be revised before contract award. Please bid accordingly.
