Plan sheet 12(1) Signal Notes B. 3 and 4 referring to the communication line and power to the signal. They state the contractor is responsible for any costs associated with providing these services. Typically the contractor installs the conduit systems but does not have to bear the costs of the utility companies delivering their services and hook-ups. Will this practice continue?
Answer

The contractor is responsible for the dealings with the utility companies and to handle anything else that the utility companies will not handle.

Shallow Rock is discussed on the last page of Mr. David P. Shiells, P.E. letter in which he did encounter diabase rock at shallow depths. Without adequate boring information, estimating the quantity of rock that may be encountered is difficult. Will VDOT be providing more detailed boring information, and if not how will we be paid for excavation should rock encountered?
Answer
Date:
7/28/2014 12:44:45 PM
VDOT will not be performing any additional borings. All excavation is unclassified so the contractor must make the best estimate on rock excavation he can and take that into account when submitting his bid. The contractor is free to conduct his own investigation prior to submitting his bid. Excavation will be paid in accordance with Section 303 of the Specifications.
