Subject: Paving Type: Specifications
Question Date: 1/3/2025 8:28:33 AM
Paving 1" will have a tendency to slide and give undesirable results. Industry standard for years have been 1.5"-2". Would the engineer consider changing the tonnage to represent at least an inch and one half? Thanks
Answer   Date: 1/3/2025 11:40:47 AM
Thanks for reaching out and expressing your concerns with regards to the 1.0" lift overlays. Salem District have been placing 1.0" lifts using SM-9.0 asphalt mixes for several years, mainly on low volume secondary routes such as the routes included in order 270. Pavement Management office is not aware of any issues reported by the Construction Division in Salem District related to sliding and the quality of the final product. Therefore, and based on our observations, there shall be no changes to the scope of work in order 270.
