Question Date: 8/12/2021 2:22:20 PM
Sheet M2, Step 11 of the Construction Staging says to reverse the existing center wedge assemblies. Sheet M19, Note 2 states, “The wedge system shall be installed on the opposite side of the bridge as the existing system. The new installation shall match the existing in the location, alignment, and operation of the existing system.” There is a note on view B-B pointing at the crank arm bearing supports which states, “Existing hole locations as shown shall be field verified.” If the wedge machinery is to be mounted on the opposite side of the pivot girder, will these holes be abandoned and new holes laid-out and drilled on the truss on the opposite side of the pivot girder? Please clarify.
Answer   Date: 8/16/2021 4:03:35 PM
The new center wedge assembly shall be installed mirrored about the centerline of the pivot girder to the existing center wedge assembly. The existing location, alignment, and operation in reference to the existing system shall be used as reference when installing the new system in the mirrored position. If the existing bolt or rivet holes in the location of the new center wedge assembly do not match the bolt holes of the existing assembly, new bolt holes may need to be field drilled into the structure. Refer to the notes regarding field drilling of holes on sheet G3. Per the note on G2, “All open holes from removal of existing steel members shall be filled with a bolt corresponding to the removed bolt or rivet size…”. This note shall also apply to open holes from removal of existing steel supports for machinery.
