Subject: Past Bridge Modifications Type: Plan
Question Date: 10/12/2020 12:36:01 PM
The Sketches that were posted regarding the "As-built" condition of the bridge do not show what appears to be more recent modifications at/near the abutments. It appears that additional timber support elements, foundations unknown, have been installed a few feet in front of each abutment. Are these additional timber supports founded on concrete footings or pedestals ? If so are they also required to be removed as are the concrete foundations in the water ? These newer elements are not shown on the 1972 sketches but appear to be similar to the details shown in the typical framing for the pier but do now depict any foundation element.
Answer   Date: 10/14/2020 4:22:43 PM
The temporary bents later installed in front of the abutments are located on the slope comprising wooden columns on concrete footers. The wooden sill, columns and caps of the temporary bents will be removed as part of the existing bridge. The existing footers of the temporary bents need not be removed and can remain buried when the stream slopes are restored.

There are no as-built bridge plans for this structure. A dimensional sketch dated November 27, 1972 and showing some detail will be provided on ProjectWise. Although this sketch conforms to the overall layout and construction of the bridge, it may not reflect more recent maintenance.
