Would it be necessary to adjust the position of the existing expansion bearings prior to modifying in order to set them in vertical position? this will require jacking, removing, repositioning and re-welding sole plates with additional costs.

There is no need to adjust the position. The rocker bearing detail in the previous package was not relevant to current project work, and the correct detail (approximately ½” thick rocker plate detail) is provided in the addendum. Jacking and other work will not be required to modify the expansion bearing.

Details for Beam Crack Repair Type A or B, Schedule Item 380, shows relocation of connector plates and diaphragms to a location 2' from the existing location where cracks exist. Please inform whether the cost of relocating the diaphragms is incidental to the cost of Item 380 or it is paid under item 130, Structural Steel Rolled Beams.

Detail for “Modify Existing Expansion Bearing” has been updated to match existing conditions. For structure 2117 about 10 are fix bearing replacement and 10 are expansion bearing replacement. For structure 2118 about 26 are fix bearing replacement and 39 are expansion bearing replacement. For structure 2119, about 10 are fix bearing replacement and 10 are expansion bearing replacement.

Section 1.0 Introduction to asbestos reports for Bridges 2117 & 2118 describe the bridges consisting of prestressed concrete beams with concrete/asphalt deck. Photos in the same reports, As-Built Drawings, and site inspection all point to superstructure consisting of steel beams with concrete/asphalt deck. Please clarify whether this is a typo in the report or it refers to a different structure.

This is a typo in the introduction, the bridge is a steel beam bridge.

In the Schedule of Items the quantities for Items No. 150 Replace Bearings, and 260 Jacking and Blocking, are the same. Items No.160 Modify Existing Fixed Bearings, and 310 Modify Existing Expansion Bearings will also require jacking and blocking. Please inform whether Jacking and blocking for these two items will be paid under Item No. 260 or it should be included in the price of items.

Please provide a clear jacking system capacity in lieu of requiring a bridge load rating analysis while jacked. Bridge load rating is the business of the DOT and its Consultants and should not be tasked on the Contractors. There are no clear guidelines or examples of what exactly this scope entails, what are the review and approval times?

The Schedule of Items includes two lump sum pay items for asbestos removal on Structures 2117 and 2118. Normally asbestos removal item is included whenever there is an asbestos inspection report (Special Provisions Page 90, Measurement and Payment.) Please provide asbestos inspection reports for these two structures to assist contractor in pricing.

On Page 190(3) there is a chart showing joint closure for the three structures listed. We do not find a pay item in the Schedule of Items for this work. Please inform how joint closure is paid? is it included in the item for Patching Type C?

Special Provisions states that the contract is not restricted to the three bridges listed in the proposal package. The schedule of items includes mobilizations for the three listed structures. if the Engineer directs the contractor to perform work on other structures how would the additional mobilization be paid?

The mobilization for other structure will be paid. The contractor will need to propose reasonable cost and the department will review and approve/disapprove before the task order is issued.
