Question
Question Date: 9/19/2018
Is there data available to show locations of existing joint fabric that may be encountered during milling operations? If those locations have fabric that span multiple lanes, the milling machine could pull the entire length of fabric and compromise the pavement in the adjacent lanes. How would Vdot compensate for this contingency?

Fabric could be encountered along some of the transverse joints (not all), but we do not have record of the exact locations. Most of the bad transverse joints will get deep patching (Type III) which includes full depth saw cut through asphalt and PCC, so any fabric extending to express lanes will be saw cut. We anticipate any remaining fabric will be milled out without compromising the adjacent lanes. 9/20/2018
Pavement fabric is not expected to be encountered under general purpose lanes on I-495. 9/20/2018
