Sheet 1J(1A) - MOT Note #2 states that the Contractor is responsible for maintaining all existing signs throughout the life of the Contract. Please clarify the extent of this maintenance. For example, if a motorist destroys a sign, will the Contractor be responsible? If an existing DMS sign malfunctions, will the Contractor be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing?

This note requires the contractor to maintain all existing signs throughout the project unless they are part of the approved replacement schedule. Please refer to 2016 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications Section 105.14 – Maintenance during Construction. 8/24/2020
This note requires the contractor to maintain all existing signs throughout the project unless they are part of the approved replacement schedule. If signs or DMS equipment are struck by motorists or malfunction, this work would be the responsibility of the Department. 8/21/2020
